Barefoot Republic is a Christ centered camp that has served children from 65 different countries in 2017 alone. Our overnight camp facility is located in Fountain Run, Kentucky and throughout the summer is home to over 600 rising 3rd-12th graders. Our week long day camps sessions run at venues throughout the greater Nashville and Franklin areas in Tennessee and reaches over 1,000 children. Barefoot California launched in the summer of 2015 and continues to bring kids together along the west coast. At Barefoot, we strive to facilitate Christ-centered relationships between individuals from diverse racial, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds through an equally diverse platform of artistic, athletic and team-building programs. Our goal is to reflect God’s pursuit of His children through interests and passions, interpersonal relationships, and equipping students with tools for exploring and discovering God’s presence in their lives.
We carry out our mission by through the act of giving out scholarships to half, sometimes over half, of our campers at each session of camp. We also work with a plethora of organizations that strive to do what we do; give kids the opportunity to flourish in a safe and nurturing environment. In 2017, we gave out over $524,000 away in scholarship money to deserving campers in need. We raise these scholarships through a community of those who know us and love our campers well.
We run on MLK Day so our campers can keep attending camp. All money raised during the 5K4MLK goes straight into our scholarship fund. Barefoot desires to see all races, cultures & socio-economic groups be celebrated and come together in unity. Understanding the impact Martin Luther King Jr. had on calling for racial freedom, celebrating diversity and creating unity, Barefoot Republic wanted to host an event using these themes as the ground work for bringing people together. Knowing the large running and exercise community that exists in Nashville, this is a great fit.
We would love for any Kiwanis Club members to come and volunteer with us on Martin Luther King, Jr. morning! We would love to have people help set up, hand out waters and clean up afterwards. I am asking volunteers to fill out this google form for me: 5k 4 MLK Volunteer Form. For more information about the Run, check the website 5K4MLK.com.
