Dick Horton graduated Wake Forest University with a BA in 1971 (majored in classical language and history) and was hired as the Executive Director of Tennessee PGA in 1973 and Tennessee Golf Association (TGA) in 1974.
The Tennessee Golf Foundation was created in 1991 and Dick has served as President since its inception. Dick is a Past President of the PGA Executive Directors organization, the International Association of Golf Administrators, and has been on the USGA Regional Affairs Committee for 32 years and received the Ike Granger Award for 25 years of service.
A past deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Nashville, Dick is a member of the board and executive committee of the Eating Disorder Coalition of Tennessee, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering families help and hope for those effected by disordered eating.
Growth of golf under Dick’s leadership in Tennessee over the past 33 years has seen PGA membership increase from 150 to 500 members and the TGA grow to over 200 member clubs with 44,000 golfing members. Golf House Tennessee opened its doors and course in 1995 next door to the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame was founded in 1991 and has 25 members today.
