Club Administration

Club Meetings


The House Committee's job is to renegotiate the contract with our meeting facility and oversee office relocation, if required. The committee is also responsible for locating alternative meeting places when our regular facility is unavailable, arranging for parking and/or special transportation requirements, and for the quality of food and service for our meetings.


Attending meetings with other Kiwanis Clubs is a very important part of the Club and Kiwanis. The Inter-Club Committee arranges two visits per month with other clubs, advises our members of the time and place, and notifies the Club's Executive Secretary of the inter-club visits for publication in the weekly newsletter and on the website.

Laws & Regulations

The Laws and Regulations Committee is responsible for keeping our board and members informed when a question arises about our bylaws or those of Kiwanis International. This committee is also responsible for explaining regulations and answering questions regarding the bylaws.

Social Activities

Each year our Club has three events which the Social Activities Committee coordinates - Valentine's Luncheon, Members Holiday Party,  and President's Banquet. The committee makes arrangements for these events, including setting the date, securing gifts, arranging entertainment, and other arrangements as necessary.

Membership Growth & Education


The Membership Committee is vital to the well being of our Club. It is important that new members are continuously introduced into the Club on a regular basis. The committee is responsible for developing procedures for increasing membership and advising the board on the status of the membership development process.

New Member Orientation, Education and Retention

This committee is responsible for setting meetings with our new members as they join, giving them pertinent information including committees, opportunities for participation, and answering new members' questions. The committee also folls up with members whose attendance has become irregular.


The Roster Committee assumes the task of updating the roster annually and works with the Executive Secretary and the Club President to ensure an updated roster is available to Club members in the first quarter of the program year.

Long Range Planning

The Long Range Planning Committee takes a long-term look at our Club's activities and our accomplishments in the community. The committee then recommends to the Board of Directors ways to improve our service in and for our community.

Community Service

Adopt-A-Highway Program

In 1991 our Club became a participant in the Metro-sponsored Adopt-a-Highway Program to pick up litter on the two-mile stretch of West End ave/Harding Rd from Lynwood Blvd. to I-440. This service is performed three times per year with the assistance of 10-15 members. The service requires 1-2 hours of each volunteer's time per session.

Citizenship/Veteran's Day

The Citizenship Committee organizes our Veteran's Day ceremony which is held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in Centennial Park at the Kiwanis statue. The committee is also responsible for securing a speaker, a wreath to place on the statue, and encouraging members to attend this patriotic event.

Fund Raising

Big Brothers

For 90 years, Big Brothers of Nashville has helped those who have nowhere else to turn. Big Brothers receives no funds from any source other than individuals and depends on individual donations. In December of each year our Club distributes the Big Brothers tabloid and solicits donations in the neighborhood bounded roughly by I-440, West End Ave., Woodmont Blvd., and 21st Ave/Hillsboro Pk. Approximately 80 volunteers are needed for this effort. The event requires 4 hours of each volunteer's time annually.

Golf Tournament

Since 1997 the Annual Charity Golf Scramble has become a popular and major fund-raising event for the Club's Youth Fund. Held each year in May, 15-20 volunteers are required to plan, organize and staff the tournament. Work on the tournament begins in February with approximately 20 hours per volunteer required from planning to execution.

Pancake Breakfast

This event had its debut in January 2004. The chair will form a committee to plan, secure location, secure equipment and suplies, advertise and carry out this fun endeavor.

Peanut Sales

President's Banquet and Auction

The President's Banquet and Auction (silent and live) is an annual event through which monies are raised to replenish the Youth Fund and for specific designated charities. The President-elect is the chair. Held each year in September, 15-20 volunteers are needed to help obtain cash donations and auction items and arrange the items the afternoon of the event. Preliminary work for this event requires about 20 hours per volunteer.

Salvation Army Bellringers

Each year our Club, along with the other civic clubs in the downtown area, joins forces with the Salvation Army to ring bells on the downtown streets for two days in December. The Salvation Army Bellringers' Committee contacts the Salvation Army and makes arrangements for our days and recruits volunteers for a one-hour shift each. This effort requires 3-4 hours of volunteer time as a committee member.

Special Events

The Special Events Committee exists to support all other fundraising and to identify added fund-raising or other charity opportunities.

Human & Spiritual Values

Spiritual Aims - Prayer Breakfast and Ralph Brunson Award

Our Club holds a monthly Prayer Breakfast on the first Wednesday of each month. The Spiritual Aims Committee makes all arrangements, including the speakers, and promotes the meetings among our members.

Annually our Club presents the Ralph Brunson Award to the Kiwanian who personifies the ideals of the late Ralph Brunson. The Spiritual Aims Committee solicits nominees, selects the recipient, and arranges the luncheon.

Young Children: Priority One

A 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation, the Kiwanis of Nashville Foundation is a multi-layered volunteer project.

As one focus, in conjunction with the Salvation Army's Red Shield Family Initiative (RSFI), a community-based collaborative effort aimed at revitalizing the neighborhoods served by the Magness Potter Community Center, our Club provides volunteers and funds to:
  • Stabilize families by providing financial assistance through RSFI to combat work hindrance factors.
  • Energize lives of individuals, especially young people, by volunteering time to RSFI strategic functions.
This project provides the entire Club with the opportunity to fully engage in activities addressing the needs of children in the Magness Potter area.

Service Leadership Programs

Kiwanis Clubs internationally sponsor youth clubs whose purposes are:
  • To provide opportunities for working together in service to school and community.
  • To develop leadership potential.
  • To foster development of a strong moral character.
  • To encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation.
The Service Leadership Programs Committee helps to develop, guide, and encourage the youth clubs.

AKtion Clubs

AKtion Clubs are composed of developmentally disadvantaged citizens.

Builders Clubs

Builders Clubs are comprised of middle school students.

Circle K Clubs

Circle K Clubs are comprised of college and university students. The Nashville Kiwanis Club currently sponsors Circle K Clubs at Belmont University and Vanderbilt University.

Circle K Clubs focus on service to the community, building tomorrow’s leaders, and creating fellowship between Circle K members. Service, a fundamental element of Circle K International, is exemplified by the more than one million hours of service on Circle K members contribute on campuses and in communities annually. A primary focus of Circle K, and shared with Kiwanis International, is serving the children of the world. Circle K International has crated a service initiative called Focusing on the Future: Children. This initiative encourages members to address the issues facing children ages six to 13 and to find solutions through service for addressing these issues.

Key Clubs

Key Clubs are comprised of high school students. The Nashville Kiwanis Club currently sponsors a Key Club at Hume-Fogg High School.

K-Kids Clubs

K-Kids Clubs are comprised of elementary school students.

Youth Services

Bike Project

The Bike Committee secures used and/or abandoned bikes throughout the community and refurbishes those bikes to be donated to an organization that will distribute those bikes to needy children.

Bootstrap Awards Program

A 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation, the Bootstrap Awards Program provides scholarships to area high school seniors who demonstrate great courage in coping with difficulties and overcoming hardships, while still excelling in their school and community activities. Program committees plan and organize a major fund-raising event and develop solicitation programs that tap into area businesses and foundations. Activities continue year round. Committee participation requires a minimum of 20 hours throughout the year.

Children's Christmas Party

The New Member Christmas Party, a major part of our Christmas festivities, is a party organized exclusively by our new members for the benefit and enjoyment of underprivileged children. The committee works with the Salvation Army or other organization to identify approximately 25 pre-school-aged children to host and arranges the party, including entertainment, gifts and a visit from Santa. Volunteer time required is 7-10 hours.

Healthy Beginnings Program

This committee secures appropriate items to be given to mothers of newborn children of need in Nashville.

Special Olympics

Each year our Club participates in the State Special Olympic games held on a Saturday in May. The committee coordinates with the Tennessee Special Olympics organization and arranges for volunteers to participate to encourage the Olympic game participants and present awards. Approximately 25 volunteers are needed to work two shifts of approximately 4 1/2 hours each.
