The schedule of events, maps, and other details for the 2018 State Summer Games area available at the website for Special Olympics Tennessee.
While the Kiwanis Club of Nashville has provided volunteers for decades to help with the track and field awards presentations, the need for our volunteer support in the past couple years has expanded to other areas. In 2017 we asssisted on Friday with the reception and hospitality in the early evening as hosts and hostesses, and later in the evening with the opening ceremonies and making sure that every team entering the arena from around the state got some loud and vocal support. There may even be need for some Kiwanian(s) to help with the balloon drops from the ceiling walkways near the end of the opening ceremony!
On Saturday we now help in other areas including the timing and placement of participants in their events. There is also need for a variety of tasks with the dinner, dance and celebration ceremonies and party on Saturday evening to conclude the weekend.
Derrick Free is again the chair of the event to be held at Lipscomb University on May 18th and 19th and will begin signups and promotion of the volunteer opportunities in March. Special Olympics events engaging Kiwanis volunteers throughout the country have seen the transition for many Kiwanis volunteers to be impacted significantly.
