The "Jackpot Drawing" at weekly club meetings is a tradition that has probably spanned most of the first century of our club's operation and serves as door prize opportunity for attendance as well as generating some nominal proceeds for our Kiwanis of Nashville Foundations mission to improve the life of children in the community.
The jackpot entry is just $1 per member and voluntary with about 70% to 80% of the members participating each week. 50% of the amounts place in the fish bowl go to the jackpot winner with the remaining 50% going to our Kiwanis of Nashville Foundation to fund our projects.
Another winner from the cards entered receives a $20 Amerigo Italian Restaurant gift certificate (for any of the Amerigo locations, the closest being the 1920 West End Avenue, Nashville or 1656 Westgate Circle, Brentwood (just north of Moores Lane). Others are located in Memphis (TN), Flowood (MS) and Ridgeland (MS). The quality, service, food selections, and pricing are all outstanding.
Sometimes the speaker will bring some items to add to the drawings - perhaps Predators, Titans or Vanderbilt items when someone from one of the sports teams speaks, or an author bring books to sell with autographs but perhaps donating one for the drawing.
Occasionally club members will bring sports or concert or other tickets that they cannot use which are either raffled or auctioned depending upon the available time and the potential value and interest among members.
